Description: | A Bench farmer tells about his experience as a settler in Guraferda. He is more positive on tape. He says he was given two hectare in Komata in 2000 (Eth. Cal.) and found the soil was fertile. The Shekos were friendly to the settlers. One problem was the wildlife eating the crops, which became less as more forest was cut down. Another that there was no road. The settlers themselves had to dig a road. In 2006 (Eth.Cal.) a first cycle school was opened in Komata. The speaker strongly asserts his support of the government and also comments the government teaches the people not to destroy the forest. Note from the researcher: Nowadays, he has returned with his family to his home town. He now works as a guard. The school referred to now barely functions as it was relocated to an area without drinking water. | |
