Description: | In this video, Kasaon describes the role of the traditional circumcizer (bamwayi) including his qualifications, expectations and character. Modern practice has changed the role of the bamwayi and the now work in conjunction with public health officials who ensure that they use medically sterilized equipment. Christians and a few modernized parents also prefer sending their children to hospitals for medical male circumcision which is encouraged by the government. This means that such boys would not undergo the rigours of traditional seclusion. They also forego the educational value of the initiation process. Traditionalists consider the latter as weaklings | |
