Description: | In this video, Kasaon describes the special pieces of traditional attire adorned by the initiates once they begin to heal. After about three weeks in seclusion, the initiates come out in the open field to dance and prove to their parents and relatives that they underwent initiation successfully. They are, however, disguised so as to conceal their identity. On the head, they wear the gorosioth (a woven mask) while on the waist they have the simaboi (a piece of hide to serve as the vest and skirt). These are covered in decorated sisal skirts which is reported to be a practice borrowed from the neighbouring Luhya who also circumcize their boys. | |
