Description:		In this video, Kiplamai describes the ceremonial public dance that is performed by initiates as they heal. At this dance, there is jubilation and a jovial mood. It signifies victory upon attainment of adulthood. The initiates are dressed in decorated sisal skirts and they display their individual dancing skills. The singing is led by the middle aged men (muthirioth) while the chorusing is done by the initiates and the general audience. The menjethi is beaten at the centre of the pitch and it sets the tempo for the gapkiaye dance. After the dance, the initiates return to their seclusion hut escorted by a crowd of boys but the latter do not reach the vicinity of the hut. The initiates will appaer every evening to dance in public unless the weather becomes inclement. Their expected appearance is preceded by the blowing of whistles, horns and the bating of the menjethi from early afternoon. The initiates appaer from around 5 p.m. and dance till dusk approaches
