Description: | Sharing of meat is an important cultural symbol among the Hrusso Akas. It signifies gratitude, and appreciation and bonds of affection. Having lived in the village of Buragaon for several weeks, and and grateful for all the cooperation and affection of the villagers I (Vijay) gave a feast by giving a pig to the village on 17 March 2016. The entire event is captured here in this video. There are four parts: The first is a view of the Buragaon village (with narration in my voice). In the second, the meat is divided. Also in this video, Delu Sapon explains the parts of the pig. In the third part the village leaders and other guests arrive. And the fourth the feast is eaten and the meat distributed to all the households. This is the most important part of the feast. The distributed portion of the meat share is called 'futsü' and greatly valued. The videos are long, but we have Most of the footage unedited. One can see the method of meat division and hear streams of spontaneous conversation. There are no dances here - such events usually take place in the evenings. As said earlier, the most important event is the meat-share distribution, where each household gets a share. | |
