Description:The bundle contains ancient songs sung by Dogge, a village priest. These songs are highly respected by the Akas, but very few understand them since they are sung in register that is no longer used ordinarily. There are also very few people who can sing them. The songs used to be sung on solemn occasions like feasts, marriage and other rites of passage. Nowadays there are no longer sung commonly. In the videos it can be noticed that the tempo of each song gradually increases. This is an aberration that occurred perhaps because of faulty meeting of bamboo sticks that can be heard in the background. We wanted to rerecord the songs with even speed, but could not organise recording again. Therefore, we decided to keep these, given the importance and rarity. Recorded in Dogge's kitchen, Buragaon village. It had split-bamboo floors and walls, and had limited light inside. The video was recorded using Canon 700D DSLR camera with a 50 mm f 1.8 lens since the light was poor. Audio was recorded separately on the Marantz PMD II 661 using the Superlux S502 stereo microphone. This microphone was used in order to get an ORTF effect, imitating the human ear in capturing the richness and directionality of the various sounds in the room, like the beating of bamboo sticks to keep the beats.
