Description: | Wangdi Jebisow is the father of Dorjee Jebisow, who served as one of the main language consultants on this project. Wangdi serves as a forest guard with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. He is accompanied here by his wife Nita, who is present but not an active participant. There are two recordings in this bundle: the first is of a biographical nature, concerning Wangdi's life and times, his struggles, studies, and childhood. The second is a conversation between Wangdi and his son Dorjee about the clans of the Buragaon area (Shañ-Gübzü) and some rules about land rights and village life. Wangdi's pronunciation and articulation is particularly clear. Note also Wangdi's solemn and serious demeanour. Even when he is speaking to a son, he continues in the same style. This is simply how the Hrusso Akas speak in formal situations. You will see this style many a time in this deposit. This should not be mistaken for artificiality or camera consciousness. The place of recording: Wangdi Jebisow's kitchen at the Forest Quarters at Kimi Forest Gate, at 'Chouda Mile' (literally '14 miles'), between the villages of Khuppi and Kimi Equipment used: video - Canon XA20 video camera audio - Audio technica 803B lavalier microphones, recorded separately on Marantz PMD 661 MK2 recorder and mixed later still - Canon 700D Recording conditions: Fairly quiet surroundings, as there were no other houses around or people around | |
