Description:This recording was made by Elena Kalinina and Nina Sumabtova from Galina Ivanovna Kandakova in 2006. A first transcription and translation were made by Nina Sumbatova with the help of Galina Ivanovna Kandakova. In 2018, Brigitte Pakendorf transcribed it in ELAN, glossed it, and checked questions with G. I. Kandakova. Galina Ivanovna tells how she and her sister-in-law Sveta came to Vladimirovka from Udinsk for the remembrance feast (a year after the death of Galina Ivanovna’s younger brother). While they were staying there, a man in the village committed suicide. Sveta was not supposed to travel back right after the death, but she did not believe that and left. Later her parents and younger siblings died. Daria Ivanovna Nadeina is also present during the recording and asks a few questions.
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
