The project documents oral texts on traditions and daily life in the Reef Islands, covering 8 villages and 73 speakers ranging in age from 15 to 93. The materials were recorded in September-October 2015. | ||
Ken Kesi describes a traditional method of shark fishing where the shark is lured by means of a coconut-shell rattle and snared with a rope before being clubbed to death. He sings the song traditionally used to give thanks for a successful catch and explains its significance. | ||
