Description:Digitisation of a mono open reel music session recording, recorded and digitised by Geoffrey Benjamin. The recording was made very early on in Benjamin's field work with the Temiar. The group knew that Benjamin was interested in music so they performed for him (they would have known about recording because they would have heard Ading Krah's recordings on the Orang Asli radio). They claimed the performance was just for entertainment but some children later revealed that the singing was religiously related. A photo of the recording session can be found in Figure 2.5 in Benjamin's Temiar religion book. Figure 2.6 is a photo of one of the singers, Saleh, the late father of Benjamin's friend Abur, and who was known as the P. Ramlee of the Perolak river. Track list with song and singer names as given by Malam upon listening to the recording can be found in the accompanying tracklist, typed up by Benjamin based on notes on p.46 of Notebook 1 (Benjamin's notes on each track also found on p.46 of Notebook 1). Note that the numbering of the tracks in the tracklist does not correspond to the numbering of the digital files as received from Geoffrey Benjamin.
