Description: A tree which grows in valleys and near streams or rivers, where a lot of sasagrass (pryàak) also grows. When the berries are ripe, birds and squirrels come to eat them. The Mien (Yao) people use the bark for making paper. In February and March, people collect the flowers and steam them with pako ferns (krsúuñ) and banana leaves: Steam the paper mulberry flowers, ferns and young white banana leaves in a rice-steamer for 15–20 minu¬tes. Pound dried chillies with salt and ginger roots (rwè) and mix with the vegetables.
