Description: A tree which may grow anywhere in the forest and around the villages. Some families plant it in or around their gardens. The trunk is white. The young leaves and the fruits, which grow on the trunk and branches, are edible. During the hot season, when there are no culti¬vated vegetables in the fields, people collect the young leaves, eat them raw with chilli sauce and rice or pre¬pare stew with the leaves and fish (sə́ŋ tàŋ lá ~ káp ká): Fill a cooking pot with cold water and heat it, pick and wash young leaves and put them into the pot with dried fish, chillies, crushed rice and salt. Let it boil for 20–30 minutes, stirring it all the time. Some animals, like ci¬vets, giant flying squirrels and bats, eat the ripe fruits. The wood is soft and cannot be used as building materi¬al. If the wood is used as firewood, there will only be a lot of ash in the fireplace, but no heating at all. | ||
