Description: A 30–40 m tall tree with short, sharp thorns on the trunk and branches. It is similar to tráŋ (Erythrina stricta) but has smaller flowers. The flowers are red and beautiful. It grows in cool and moist places and near the sources of streams. Birds and squirrels come to suck nectar from the flowers, and sambar deer, barking-deer, pheasants and junglefowl come to eat flowers that have fallen to the ground. The wood is too soft to be used for building houses, but people use it for making coffins, which must be made of soft wood so that they rot quickly.
