Description: A cultivated vine which is planted in the gardens and fields and used for making food. The pods are 5–10 cm long and flat. People sow it near a tree stump which it can twine around; otherwise it will twine around rice plants and destroy them. During the hot season when there are no vegetables in the abandoned fields, people collect hyacinth beans to make stew (sə́ŋ tàŋ ~): Pour cold water into a cooking pot and heat it. Cut pieces of dried meat and put in the pot. Roast some green chillies, tear them to pieces and put in the pot. Add salt. When the water boils, add the beans, lemongrass straws, crushed rice and basil straws. Boil the stew while stir¬ring it all the time until it is ready (20–30 minutes). | ||
