Description: A vine which should be planted near a tree in the field, so that it can climb the tree. Otherwise the 10–15 m long vine would twine around the rice plants and break them. In August to November they bear fruit. There are three sorts: ~ mòn ‘round luffa’ with round fruits, ~ wàaŋ ‘long luffa’ with cylindrical fruits and ~ síi lìam ‘square luffa’ (or ~ ñɔ̀ɔr ‘striped luffa’) whose fruits are 15–20 cm long and have rectangular sections. The fruits and the young leaves are used to prepare soup or are steamed and eaten with rice. Other gourds (skó, nɔ̀ɔy or snlòoy) and some other condiments must be added to the soup. Otherwise it does not taste good at all. | ||
