		Description: A 30–40 m tall tree. It may grow in any place, but those which grow on the high mountains have harder wood than those in the valleys. In July they blossom and in September and October the chestnuts become ripe and fall to the ground. There are very sharp thorns on the fruits, which are oily and tasty. People go to collect the nuts, peel off the thorny peels and eat the oily stones inside. Sometimes when people lack rice, they collect chestnuts, pound and cook them and eat them instead of rice. In September and October, the pigs go to the forest to eat chestnuts. Some weeks later they take on a dark, black colour from the sap of the chestnuts. During the hot season, or when people are clearing the new fields, they may cut the trunk to obtain sap and drink it when they grow thirsty. The wood is very hard and good for making charcoal and for making poles (cntràŋ, sntrùh) for houses, because termites are unable to eat it. When people are clearing the fields they climb up and cut down the branches of this tree, but let the trunk remain. When the area is used as a field, the women plant vege¬tables, tobacco and chil¬lies around this tree. Rice and other plants grow well around these big trees, because there is a lot of ashes around them, and the soil is loose. This tree has neither high respect nor an evil spirit, but people trust it, be¬cause it is a hard and good tree. It is likened to a good, strong and honest person.
