| Abstract: | L’entretien a eu lieu le 14 novembre 2019 dans la ville de Tanga, chez Mwanajuma J., où j’étais introduite par son petit-neveu, Mohamed. Celui-ci reste avec nous pendant l’entretien, et une amie de Mwanajuma J., avec qui je mène un entretien dans la foulée (Mwanahamisi M.), est là également et intervient ponctuellement. Au fur et à mesure de l’entretien, d’autres personnes arrivent, dont le fils de Mwanajuma J. et un jeune homme, tandis que diverses femmes passent : nous sommes dans une pièce ouverte sur le couloir central de la maison.L’entretien est assez court (30 minutes) et fastidieux par moments : je ne la comprends pas toujours bien, notamment parce que son swahili comprend de nombreuses spécificités propre aux régions rurales de Tanga, tandis qu’elle n’a pas une très bonne ouïe. Par ailleurs, elle développe très peu ses réponses, donc j’ai particulièrement besoin de la relancer, parfois sans succès. Toutefois, cet entretien fournit des aperçus riches sur les perspectives d’une femme qui n’a pas eu accès à l’éducation formelle ni enfant, ni adulte, du fait d’une précarité matérielle qui a toujours pris le dessus.La fin de la transcription est le début d’un second entretien de 12 minutes mené avec elle le 26 novembre 2019. Il se poursuit ensuite sur les parcours de ses enfants, mais je n’ai inclus ici que le début, qui donne des compléments importants sur son profil familial. Nous étions alors seules, dans sa chambre.Les passages coupés, signalés par « [...] » ne sont que de courts groupes de mots inaudibles. La transcription est restée aussi proche que possible de l’enregistrement, avec les hésitations et répétitions propres au discours oral. Les notes dans la version swahilie portent sur des points de langue, celles dans la version française donnent d’autres compléments utiles à la compréhension et à la mise en perspective des propos tenus. Le vouvoiement n’existe pas en swahili, c’est un ajout propre à la version française. | |
| The interview took place on 14 November 2019 in the town of Tanga, at the home of Mwanajuma J., where I was introduced by his grand-nephew, Mohamed. Mohamed stayed with us during the interview, and a friend of Mwanajuma J., with whom I conducted an interview later (Mwanahamisi M.), was also there and intervened from time to time. As the interview progressed, other people arrived, including Mwanajuma J.’s son and a young man, while various women passed by: we were in a room that opened onto the central corridor of the house.The interview is fairly short (30 minutes) and tedious at times: I don’t always understand her very well, particularly as her Swahili includes many features specific to the rural areas of Tanga, while her hearing is not very good. Furthermore, she doesn’t develop her answers very much, so I particularly need to ask her again, sometimes without success. Nevertheless, this interview provides rich insights into the perspectives of a woman who has had no access to formal education, either as a child or as an adult, due to the material precariousness that has always taken precedence.The end of the transcript is the start of a second 12-minute interview with her on 26 November 2019. It then goes on to talk about her children’s backgrounds, but I’ve only included the beginning here, which provides important additions to her family profile. We were alone in her room at the time.The passages that are cut off, indicated by “[...],” are just short groups of inaudible words. The transcription has been kept as close as possible to the recording, with the hesitations and repetitions typical of oral discourse. | ||
