Title: | Western Mono War Dance Song
Contributor (consultant): | Blind Bill
Contributor (researcher): | Steward, Julian H.
Date: | [circa 1927-1928]
Description: | Keeling catalog note: "The so-called 'War Dance' (totsohoidu) is said to be foreign to Owens Valley Paiutes, although it was probably introduced before the advent of white people to the area (Steward 1933:321). The Western Mono are closely allied to the Owens Valley Paiute in language and culture (Steward 1933:235); thus, Steward's assertion that the true War Dance is missing among the Owens Valley Paiute (p. 323) would suggest that this is another of the type called totsohoidu." Distributed on California Indian Music Project, Sierra region, tape 14, side B. Original cylinder 14-2648. 180 speed.
