My Grandpa and Grandma, Adam and Kate teach me how to hunt, trap, what to do with your wild meat, fishing. they taught me to cut meat up, dry them and put them away. how to cut fish, dry and put it away. Taught me to hunt for muskrat. My Mom teach me how to skin muskrat. Is subsistence important in your life today? Yeah. Cause we need to wild life and the wild meat. We need it for food. It helps me, the meat does. Do you think Indians think in a different way than non natives about subsistence? Do you think that things have changed? Yeah, they don't do like the old lifestyle anymore. They do different. My Grandpa and Grandma used to stay out trap line for about a week or month. why did it change? don't know. Schools and training. Do you think that the old people will ever return to that way of life? No, maybe some would. Too much electricity, tv, running water, some of them used to it now. Some will go back to it. Is it important for kids today to learn some of the old ways? I wish some of them would. Some day there might be no electricity and they have to pack water and use lamps. If backscatter is built do you think it will make a difference on subsistence lifestyle? don' t know. Do you think the backscatter will make a difference for kids to go back to old lifestyle? don't know. If the traffic to Tok increases would that affect subsistence? Yeah it would. I used Tulsona, blueberries, cranberries, some raspberries. Up towards Slana between Chisto and Mentasta. What could the Air Force do to keep the problems down? don't know. Put it someplace else. To know where I come from, where our grandfathers came from, way of life. Is the subsistence lifestyle important to you? yeah, it tells us where we came from and how we survived. What are some subsistence activities? Berry picking, we go along with the seasons, go out walking. Who taught you how to pick berries? My Mom, we go out every fall. Berries was like dessert to us.
